How to navigate Valentine’s Day solo

It’s Valentine’s Day and you’re single. It’s just one day but it can be a cruel follow-up to those lonely days over Christmas and New Year’s where you were confronted by other couples enjoying their holidays together.
If you’re feeling a bit glum about Valentine’s Day, here’s some ways to spend the day and night like a boss:
- Make someone your Valentine
So you’re single. Who cares! There are still plenty of other people in your life who you love and appreciate. Why not use the week or even the day of Valentine’s Day as an excuse to acknowledge someone you’re grateful to have in your life. This could be your work wife or husband, your neighbour or some of your girlfriends. Gifting someone else a thoughtful card expressing gratitude towards them is a nice way to lift your positivity levels. - Plan a date night with a single friend
One of the great things about Valentine’s Day is that if someone’s out, and not with their partner, the chances of them being single are HIGH. So, grab a friend, book a bar or dinner date and make the night your own. Who knows who you’ll meet. - Hit up a singles event
There are singles events happening all over the world on Valentine’s Day. No matter what happens, you can be sure to spend the night connecting with other people. - Host a date night for you
What would your ideal evening involve? For me, for sure it would involve pampering of some kind, maybe even some exercise, followed by a delicious meal, a great film and a nice glass of wine. Hosting a date night for yourself is a great way to really embrace the single life and exercise self-care. - Hit up an exercise or cooking class
If singles events don’t appeal to you but you’re dreading the thought of spending Valentine’s Day night alone at home, why not plan some other activities? Doing something positive, like exercise, or fun and educational, like a dance or cooking class, could be just the ticket.
